Here are more scientific research studies to follow up on my previous Hub "Green Tea Weight Loss Research", that provide evidence for green tea weight loss effects.

Green tea catechin decreases abdominal fat in overweight and obese adults:

This study was completed by 107 participants. They were either given a beverage containing 625mg catechins with 39mg caffeine or a beverage with just 39mg of caffeine with no catechins. The participants exercised with moderate intensity for 180 minutes per week spread over 3 exercise sessions for a period of 12 weeks. The results revealed the participants taking the catechins and caffeine lost more abdominal fat than those who only consumed caffeine without the catechins. These findings suggest consuming catechins enhances exercise-induced changes in abdominal fat.

Green Select Phytosome™ for Green Tea Weight Loss:

Green Select Phytosome™ is a bio-available green tea extract. It is called Moncam® in tablet form . It was tested on on a group of 50 obese individuals of both genders on a hypo-caloric diet and a further 50 subjects were given the hypo-caloric diet only. After 90 days of this treatment considerable weight loss and decreased body mass index were achieved in the group taking Moncam®. Amazingly the Moncam® group lost 14kg compared with just 5kg for those dieting only! Further consideration was given in this study to the high safety profile of Moncam® as a herbal supplement.

An extract of black, green and mulberry teas causes malabsorption of carbohydrates:

Healthy adult volunteers randomly ate a test meal containing 50g of carbohydrate as white rice, 10g of butter and a beverage containing 10g of sugar. For some volunteers this beverage also contained a 0.1g extract of green, black and mulberry teas, and the other volunteers where given a placebo. The results were quite amazing and indicated that those subjects given the tea extract experienced malabsorption of 25% of the carbohydrates!

Effects of Catechin on Body Composition:

182 moderately overweight chinese subjects were given 2 servings a day of either a placebo beverage or beverages containing specific amounts of green tea catechins ranging from 458g up to 886g over a period of 90 days. The results concluded that the group given the 2 beverages a day containing 886g of catechin obtained improvements in body composition and a reduction in abdominal fat.

Conclusion:

So the evidence of green tea for weight reduction is very strong and these are only some of many research studies conducted on this particular subject. It is clear also from the studies that green tea weight loss results increase considerably when you take higher doses of catechins in the range of 600-900g per day.

Green Tea really does help with weight loss! I experimented with it. I consumed 5 large cups of green tea everyday for a month and I lost 1.8lbs!
