Jack LaLanne Juicer Review - The Power Juicer Classic - The Pros and the Cons
85
It is likely that on a sleepless night or a quiet Saturday afternoon you have seen the energetic Jack Lalanne Power Juicer infomercial on T.V. It stars the dazzling 94-year-old Jack Lalanne himself, the American godfather of health and fitness. Jack is the quintessential example of how a healthy lifestyle will help you age with grace and vigor! He's an inspiration to all!
As amazing as Jack Lalanne is, how well does his Power Juicer Classic hold up? I have owned a Jack Lalanne Juicer for 1 year now and here is what I have found.
Pros of the Jack Lalanne Juicer Classic
Pros:
1) The juicer is sturdy and as described is truly "whisper-quiet". It is definitely the quietest centrifugal juicer that I have used up to this point. No need for ear plugs!
2) The official Jack Lalanne power juicer website claims the juicer extracts "up to 30% more" vegetable and fruit juice than other juicers. Of course that's a hard claim to accurately measure, but I can say it does produce an impressive amount of juice.
3) You can fit most of the produce whole inside the juicer's large chute or by slicing them once in half. This can save preparation time.
4) The motor comes with a lifetime warranty. All other parts you will need to pay for if you need to replace them. We have been using the juicer for about a year. We approximately make 1 juice a day and have not needed to replace anything yet.
5) There is a handy pulp collector that fits onto the back of the juicer. This pulp can be used in a wide variety of recipes such as bread, muffins, soups and cookies.
Cons of the Jack LaLanne Juicer Classic
Cons:
1) The juicer spout drips after making a juice. When you remove the drinking glass, you must place a towel on your worktop to avoid leaving a mess or stains. Some of the newer models have a non-drip feature to address this issue.
2) The plastic components stain easily from fruits such as carrots and oranges if you clean the juicer immediately after use you can slow down the staining but there is no way to stop it.
3) Sometimes the harder vegetables such as carrots can get a little stuck at the bottom of the chute. If this happens you will need to apply extra pressure to the pusher to get the food through. The manual claims that if this happens you only need to add a little extra pressure and sometimes this is true, but other times it does requires a firm push.

Jack Lalanne Juicer Review Conclusion:
Despite some of the cons, overall we are really happy with this juicer and it is doing a great job for us. If you are looking for a juicer, we are pretty confident you will be happy with a Jack Lalanne juicer.
Also, if you are an owner of any of the other Jack Lalanne juicer models it would be great if you could drop a comment about how it's working for you so other folks can read them. Any other comments are welcome also.
Which Power Juicer Model Should You Buy?
I decided to add this section to this hub to clearly explain the difference between the 5 power juicer models that are available. This way you can make a more educated choice about which power juicer will work best for you! You will see that the 4 models, besides the power juicer classic, each offer a specific function that the others don't. So lets take a look...
The Power Juicer Classic - Basic Features
This is the entry level power juicer that is reviewed in detail in this hub. As you will see the two main draw backs are the static spout that drips and the white plastic parts that stain from the juice.
The Power Juicer Express - Compact Model
This power juicer is a little thinner than all the other power juicers and is designed specifically to be space saving. It still offers the same power but in a more compact machine. However, the smaller size is not a huge difference compared to the power juicer classic which is the next size up. The size differences are compared below.
Power Juicer Classic: Length = 16", Width = 12", Height = 15.5"
Power Juicer Express: Length = 14.5" Width = 12", Height = 16"
The power juicer express also comes in white plastic parts that get stained but does feature a non drip spout. The express model also comes in a black plastic design, but I have not seen one of these in action to see if the black color is less affected by staining.
The Power Juicer Deluxe - Stainless Steel
Take the power juicer classic and give it a nice stainless steel finish and a wonderful drip free spout and you have the power juicer deluxe. The stainless steel finish does not stain!
The Power Juicer Pro - Fine Filter
The power juicer pro model is designed to filter the juice more finely. It is the only power juicer that comes with a stainless steel mesh filter that stops smaller pulp particles coming through.
The Power Juicer Elite - Soy Technology
The power juicer elite is fitted with what the power juicer company (Tristar) calls "soy technology". This equips the power juicer elite with the unique function of being able to juice nuts and beans so that we can make our own homemade soy milk and nut milks!

A Great Video From Jack LaLanne About Happiness (or the lack of it!)
I remember this guy working out every week on the local news channel while I was in college.
Good stuff. Hope I look that good at 95. Probably shouldn't have given away my juicer, though.
I have one and love it too, other than the cleaning despite being able to put bits in the dishwasher. I never thought of using the pulp bits though but will now as it seems like a good idea.
Sounds like a great family gift for the holidays!
I love juicing, I have been juicing for a while now and I can really feel the health benefits. I definitively feel less toxic and a lot cleaner in my skin
Wow - did you see the videos above! Jack LaLanne is 95 and he still works out 2 hours a day!
Is it really worth the bother using the pulp from drier ingredients though? I use a single auger juicer and the pulp from carrots, etc is very pithy and dry... but I can see how using tomato pulp would be good for salsa. Yum!
Also, something to consider as the summer gets hotter and hotter (30 degrees in London theses days!) *LaLanne does look impressive I must say!
Sorting out the various models had me confused prior to reading this article.
The Power Juicer Pro is my choice. Thanks for straightening me out, Darren.
Good point about the stains. It's less of a problem if the parts are stainless steel. It's also good to see that Jack's juicer is centrifugal since there's been some confusion that they're not as good because they heat the juice. However, if you've ever tested it, it's not hot at all. The juice needs to get to 118 degrees or more Fahrenheit for the enzymes to start breaking down. No juicer that I know of "cooks" the juice like that. Most juice will be about 60 degrees.
About 4 years ago I got the basic juicer and loved it. You're right about the white staining though. This past year got the Stainless pro model and love it even more. I've read that you get more juice from a single auger or twin gear type of juicer, but am very pleased with the amounts I get from this one. Clean up is a snap. I just wash it up quick in the sink, takes 5 minutes. The juice is worth it! But I do wish mine had the no drip spout. Not a big negative though.
I have the stainless steal version. I have had the champion, the juice man, and one other I can not remember the brand. The jack LaLanne juicer is by far the best. It produces the most juice and cleans up far better than the other ones. Jack is an inspirational health and fitness icon. His words of wisdom and example of how to live a healthy life style will never be upstaged. All health and fitness advice today has it's foundation in Jack LaLanne's roots of the what is the simple truths.
